2010 Basketball Tours

Central Asia

Dates: Last two weeks of March

Level: DII or past collegiate experience

Central Asia sits right in the heart of some of the most unreached people groups in the world, meaning people who have no credible witness for Christ among them.  Basketball allows us access to engage many with the Gospel through both words and deeds.  Over the past 15 years AIA has hosted an international basketball tournament during the Muslim New Year's celebration that takes place around the same time as our Easter.  This context provides us with many opportunities to share the relevance of Jesus' death on the cross and the necessity of Christ.  This is an incredibly challenging trip both on and off the court to make Jesus known. Team Satay

Dates: June 6th - 26th 

Level: DII / DIII

We have received an invitation to travel and serve a large country in Southeast Asia. We are seeking 10 quality and mature athletes along with 4-5 qualified and Godly basketball coaches for basketball competition and instruction.  While we will have opportunity to compete against some of the best university teams in Southeast Asia, the majority of our work will revolve around coaches’ instruction and youth basketball camps.  This is a phenomenal and unique opportunity for a mature follower of Jesus Christ to help pioneer sport ministry!

East Asia

Dates: May 14th - June 4th

Level: DII

Come help establish a developing sports ministry in one of the world’s most significant cities.   You will learn the Athletes in Action Principles and have a chance to apply them against top university competition.  The sites you see will be amazing but a greater reward will be what you learn from another culture.    

Israel

Dates: June

 Level: DII/DIII

This summer AIA will be returning to Israel the last two weeks of June.  We will be hosting our 4th annual basketball tournament for 10-14 teams from all over Palestine.  We place two players on each of these teams and you will get a taste of what it is like to do ministry as a pro basketball player, engaging cross culturally, language and religious differences.  We will wrestle through the challenges of how to make Jesus relevant and known.  We are trying to add an element of medial missions to this years tournament to reach some of the physical needs of the people.  We will also have time for some in depth travel of the land to grow in your understanding of Jesus and His great commission for us.  We need 20+ players depending on the number of teams participating in the tournament.

Guatemala

Dates:  June 12th - 30th

Level:  D3/NAIA

This team will have the opportunity to impact athletes at the highest levels of Guatemalan basketball as well as teach in numerous clinics.   Discussions are currently in process to set-up games with the Guatemalan National Team.  This is going to be a terrific basketball and ministry opportunity.
